I was at the art museums in Charlotte, NC and the docent recommended Amelie's for great experience. It was on a Saturday so the handful of cafe's closer to the museums were all closed adding to the happy accident of walking through the amazing park in between both places! Amelie's ambiance fits perfectly with this area and the sidewalk cafe at front gives the place a pet friendly and vaporizer friendly. I am not sure about smoking though. Anyway my baguette BLT with herb infused mayo was awesome. I highly recommend for any Charlotte visit!
So the pastries were great and the seating was comfortable but everything else was awful. When a coffee shop serves terrible coffee then there's kind of a problem there. I ordered two cappuccinos that arrived without any foam whatsoever, so then I asked them to remake it the guy who helped completely understood the issue when I showed him so he remade them and the foam was good. However, while my girlfriend's cappuccino tasted good mine tasted terrible. The shots were obviously overextracted and it had such a bitter flavor to it and as someone who has worked in coffee I know when a shot isn't pulled correctly. They need to be regularly adjusting the grind and testing their shots to insure good flavor in their espresso. Also the bathrooms are disgusting it looks like they haven't been cleaned in hours. Mid day bathroom checks and cleans are necessary at any large cafe and they are obviously not happening here.
Average in every way. 7 people making pastries, but cant spare a server to take order at table. Nothing better than standing in line to order while trying to peruse 8 overhead menus with little rhyme or reason to order of placement. All the while cashier yelling “next”. Quiche was dry and dense, with a semi-hard shell on top. Pate was delicious but small, a “full baguette” being about equal to what my wife thinks is 7 inches. Croque Monsieur looked good, but small. No Sweet & Low on coffee bar. Loud and table rickety. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. Fly to Dallas and go to La Madeline instead.
Magnificent!!! Went there for desserts and coffee after dinner at Ink and Ivy it was gr8. If u got a "sweet tooth" this is the place for u!!! Gr8 service and the servers know their confectioneries so they'll help u choose wisely......
You have to go to Amélie's whether you're just visiting or you live in Charlotte. There can be a little bit of a wait sometimes, but only because they're taking their time to give you the best service they can. The food is always so pretty and tastes amazing! (The Russian tea is the perfect drink on a cold fall day!)
