DO NOT GO HERE. I was referred to Sanjiv Lakhia, OD by my primary physician for a cervical malformation and saw him Thursday, 9/28/17. The service I received was of such low quality that I feel absolutely SCAMMED out of my time and money. Dr. Lakhia's diagnosis, treatment, and notes are completely and entirely outside the realm of anything resembling professional medical care. He spent all of 8 minutes diagnosing me with "congenital cervical fusion", blatantly disregarding a cervical rotary dislocation that can be felt in my neck. He acknowledged the dislocation, then told me that it was nothing to worry about. I was told that I could expect a full recovery from years of chronic pain and tension by simply going to physical therapy. I was told that I would be able to return to weightlifting with no problems. These are blatant lies and extreme negligence on the part of Dr. Lakhia. A "congenital cervical fusion" absolutely cannot be corrected by physical therapy, and commonly degenerates the spine with time. A person with "congenital cervical fusion" is at increased risk of severe neck injuries such as cervical fracture or dislocation from an incident as simple as a fall, yet none of this was mentioned to me. In his notes, Dr. Lakhia did not even mention his diagnosis, nor the presence of the rotary dislocation that I showed him. All of the information that I gave him regarding my condition was recorded incorrectly. For example, when asked if I felt numbness, I responded that I did, yet his notes say that I have no numbness. There was no mention, either verbally or written, of my cervical kyphosis. At the end of the "consultation," Dr. Lakhia sent me to physical therapy and told me he would like a follow-up in 6 weeks. A follow-up for what? I have no idea.
I was a patient here about a year ago for severe sciatic pain due to a bone fragment poking my spine. I really appreciated the care I received! Everyone I encountered was very attentive and showed considerable empathy for my discomfort. Every time I called I was able to get someone to help me immediately or call me back within a couple of hours. I've recently been dealing with Total Spine Specialist with my mother's back problems (she had surgery with Total Spine in 2006). Dealing with their unprofessional and uncaring office has really made me appreciate the care I received at Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine. My mother will be changing doctors.
The ladies at the front desk were courteous and accommodating. They recognized that I was in pain and made sure I didn't have to get up unnecessarily. They even came out from behind the desk to the waiting area to ask me a question. The doctor explained everything thoroughly and made sure we understood before moving on in the conversation. The scheduling assistant made sure I had everything I needed before leaving and verified everything at the end for clarification. Overall, a great experience!
This is the most unprofessional joke of a business I have ever seen in my life. I could not obtain a proper quote for a first time consultation, nor for physical therapy. Instead, I was told the price could range between $200 and $500. I received no statement for my visit, and the only proof I have that I ever went to this location is the credit card receipt and the doctor's notes. Even fast food restaurants give real, itemized receipts for service. Now I am out of $200 and even further away from receiving information and treatment for my condition. I have never been scammed so hard in my life. Take your money elsewhere. These people are scam artists and have absolutely no interest in your well-being.
I paid $200 out of pocket to see a "doctor" that misinformed, mistreated, and overall neglected my condition. I have spoken to 2 different CNSA Office Managers about this, both of which showed no compassion, nor any sense of professionalism. Both Office Managers attempted to direct the blame to me, using phrases such as "...if you feel like his notes are incorrect..." and "...no one has complained about Dr. Lakhia before..." Both managers welcomed me to pay Dr. Lakhia for another visit so that I could receive more negligent care, and put more of my money in their pockets. One of the Office Managers even admitted that if I were to see another Doctor at CNSA, this very same thing could happen again, wasting even more of my money.
I saw Dr. Lakia at Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates today. After being in considerable pain for over a month, it was comforting to have someone listen to me, thoroughly review my records and imaging, and formulate an acceptable game plan going forward. This was my first time meeting Dr. Lakia and being seen in this office. I am usually healthy and active and it was refreshing to meet with someone who seems dedicated to help me get my life back.
I was very pleased with Dr. Smith for my surgery, and continue to be pleased for the followups. Clearly a very well-run group. His credentials are impeccable. Straightforward, talks to me like I am an adult, feel like it is a partnership.
P.S. My mother was also a patient at this location and also received unprofessional treatment. She underwent a number of tests in order to identify the source of her chronic pain, in the hope that she may find some relief. Instead of consulting with her about the results of these painful and demanding tests, Dr. Smith had his assistant call my mother and tell her that there was nothing he could do for her, and to follow up in 3 months. He didn't even have the decency to consult with her about the test results until she demanded he do so. This is the kind of treatment you will receive for upwards of $1,500 an hour.
