A slightly better experience is had at the office on Freedom.
Workers are overworked, underpaid, apathetic and inefficient. It is clear that they are inundated with cases but there has to be a better way to serve the masses of people.
I wouldnt even give them half a star. Long story short they approved my son and myself for medicaid AND SENT ME MEDICAID CARDS, that i was about to take him to the DR with, but then tried to tell me i didn't have medicaid. So i moved to Cabarrus county and so i transferred my case from Meck to Cabb, well a month and a half later they tell me that Meck still has my case. THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME I DIDNT EVEN HAVE A CASE AT ALL! Even though Cabarrus county had told me it had been transferred and would take a few days to weeks to transfer but proceeded to send me a new card bc of the move updates, NOW they are telling me i do not even have an active case. And MRS. HOOD MIGHT I ADD WILL REFUSE TO ANSWER HER PHONE AND BLATANTLY SAYS ON THE VOICEMAIL NOT TO LEAVE HER A MESSAGE. When Mrs. Peggy Eagen hears this case she will have a field day.
I was stood up twice for a benefits phone interview with an intake worker and never received an apology. I fear that if my worker keeps standing me up for interviews she can claim that I didn't cooperate and they throw my case out and then I'll have to start all over again. What kind of system is this when the case workers don't do their jobs??? I'm cooperating but the caseworker is not and because of her negligence I may not be able to receive my benefits. This is super frustrating
Needless to say I will be going in tomorrow to find out how to file an official grievance against the department.
Inefficient agency all in all but this particular office will take years off your life by either the incredibly long waits or by the toll of emotional stress dealing with some of the workers here.
Absolutely appalling I have been trying to get the supervisor of the case worker to call me back for almost a year with no luck. What is worse is now they have arbitrarily apparently stopped paying the Medicare deductible with no notice of why. I am am a disabled cancer patient and they have decided basicly it is more profitable for them if I literally just die.
I cant tell you what type of experience you'd have by walking in or calling this office. Write your Governor, your congress person.. Grass roots old fashion campaign. Maybe they will add more staff for such a large area as Mecklenburg.
