The first time Dr. Valentine performed surgery on me I was pleased with services but when I had another issue he refused to treat the issue and was very rude. Office staff members and his nurse lack compassion.
The nurse I had was so rude I cried as soon as she walked out of the door. She took my blood pressure on the arm that was in pain, ignored me tearing up from the pain, then took it a second time in the same spot, without a single word. She truly had the worst bedside manner I've ever seen in a nurse and I was horrified by her attitude. She literally made me cry like a baby, and lacked any form of compassion. LUCKILY, the PA and Dr. Valentine were kind and informative and were able to make the visit much more pleasant.
Very nice place.
My husband proceeded to follow all the care instructions and engaged in the recommended physical therapy. I am quite aware that most PT expect patients to perform 30% or less of assigned exercise/home therapy. My husband does 100%. Always. When the hand was not progressing an expensive devise to help stretch the wrist was ordered. Not much more help. When the PT sent him back around the corner for a consult - three times - we found out that the back office staff is not quite as nice after getting paid as before. My husband purposefully scheduled appts early in the mornings because he has a demanding work schedule. Scheduled appts left us sitting in a room waiting - not for the doc, but for a PA - close to an hour on two occasions. When we asked about time in case we needed to reschedule we got snarky responses like "We're busy! We'll get to you when we get to you." The first two visits asking what the therapist might need to do differently got recommendations to "keep doing what you are doing; it takes 1. a few weeks, then 2. a few months. The third visit elicited "Well, it's better than it was. You can have surgery again if you're not happy." We haven't been back, he faithfully continued his exercise/therapies at home until it was obvious that no more progress was occurring. 18 months after surgery, although the bursa is gone and the pain is less, he still cannot fully close his hand and has less dexterity than before the surgery. Maybe that's all that could have been expected, but honesty up front would have been helpful.
Dr. Valentine performed surgery on my husband's hand 1 1/2 years ago to "clean up" a bursa. We know that medical procedures can have uncertain outcomes, but he was assured that it was simple and easy, needed to be done to prevent the possibility of permanent nerve damage, and his hand would be fine. After surgery we were told that Dr. Valentine also found a bone spur in the wrist that required removal and was taken care of.
